| 9/1/2009 11:21:00 AM | E-waste creates new opportunity for local students With a new school year upon us, some local students are ready to start the fall semester with the tools to succeed.
Fifty refurbished personal computers were recently distributed to community college students and students receiving financial assistance.
Each student also received a care package of school supplies, basic hygiene needs and other necessities to start their semester strong.
The computers, once destined for the dump, were donated by local businesses and organizations including the city of Roseville, Sims Recycling Solutions and the Sierra College Foundation.
Refurb World, who donated staff time and resources to prepare the computers for the heavy load of college coursework, refurbished the personal computers.
“We rallied our employees around this very special project,” said Steve Fassler, CEO of Refurb World in a news release. “It was a great way to give back to the community.”
